The next event in the series is taking place at Telegraph Woods; a small but technical area that lends itself to courses for both beginners and more experienced orienteers.
The area is comprised of deciduous woodland and heathland, interspersed with a mix of footpaths and intricate paths. The hill-top of Telegraph Woods is the site of an iron-age fort, offering steep slopes with intricate landforms. There is likely to be high bracken in the area but courses have been planned to avoid the worst (full leg cover is recommended).
Three courses are on offer and we've got use of the local Hilldene Community Centre, with car parking and toilet / changing facilities.

Saturday's event at Itchen Valley Country Park means we've now had three out of the five in the series. The combined league results on the Summer Series page have been updated to reflect the best two positions so far. David Currie is currently topping the table for the hard course, but he's been beaten at every event so far, so with two more events still to go, it's still all to play for. Helen Wheelwright is just ahead of Barbara Davidson on the medium, and Georgia Jones is winning the easy course.
The remaining two events in the series are at Telegraph Woods on 5th July, and Fleming Park on 2nd August.

I hope everyone enjoyed Lisa's brilliant courses, including a testing Short Green, as well as the rare pleasure of rain later on. Special thanks to her - and to Barry for sterling work preparing the IT and sorting out some teething problems. Hopefully the results show the correct names and courses now!
I also want to thank competitors for coming along to what is one of our more technical city areas. If it was your first time or the first after a break from orienteering, come again soon! And thanks to the helpers without whom the event would not be possible - Bernie, Christine, David, Duncan, Helen, Ian, Julia, Kevin, Norman, Rachel, Simon and Vicki.
