Harvester Relays 2025

The Harvester Relay returns this year and takes place on the weekend of the 27th/28th June at King's Wood, Surrey. Britain's answer to the Tiomila or Jukola, the event starts in the middle of the night, and then there are 5 or 7 legs, typically with the last one or two finishing in the daylight. If you'd be interested in being a part of a SOC team, captain [at] socweb.org (subject: Harvester%20Relay) (drop Christine an email), indicating whether you'd prefer a day or night leg, and how far you'd like to run. The five-leg option also includes an easier (TD3) course.

See the event website for more details, including accommodation. There is also a Chasing Sprint on the Saturday, for those who want to make the most of the journey east.

SOC takeover Itchen Valley Parkrun

To publicise the club and our Summer Series event the following week, we're having a SOC volunteer takeover at Itchen Valley Country parkrun on Saturday 31st May. Steve Sutch will be the Run Director and is looking for SOC members to fill the volunteer roles:

  • 7+ marshals
  • 2 timekeepers
  • 1 finish token giver
  • 2 barcode scanners
  • Course checker
  • 1+ tailwalkers
  • Report writer
  • Photographer

Please email Steve your parkrun 'A number' along with your preferred role. Register with parkrun if you have not already. Read this post to find out more about parkrun or the roles. You can also find more details about Itchen Valley Parkrun here. See you there in your SOC shirt!

Note: Parking at Itchen Valley Country Park - there is a flat rate on Saturday mornings for parkrun, which allows parking for up to 4 hours for the cost of 1 hour (£2.10), between 7:30-11:30am.

SCOA Bulletin May 2025

SCOA is the regional body that represents the orienteering clubs in the south of England covering Hampshire, The Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, South Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. SCOA pools the resources of the region’s clubs in order to provide coaching for juniors, training for officials, co‑ordinate fixtures, organise our largest events, and generally support orienteering within the region.
