SOC Successful in Military League South 08-09 Series

By Philip Eeles , 19 May, 2009

[img_assist|nid=196|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=200|height=147]In the overall combined military and civilian results of this seasons Military League South series SOC have been very successful. Sam Massey came an excellent 6th overall and 1st civilian, Philip Eeles came 10th overall and 2nd civilian. SOC were also the civilian club winners, for the third year running, this time followed by SO, BOK and SN.

[img_assist|nid=195|title=|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=199]This established series is run by the Military for whom orienteering is classed as official training for its physical exercise, navigation and decision making demands. Civilians are also welcomed and encouraged to take part in the League and numbers have grown over the years. Events are on Wednesday's from September to May and this season comprised 23 events of which 13 counted to overall scores and positions in the League. According to quick calculations from the final results a total of 1,723 individual competitors entered these events of which 353 were civilian from 39 clubs. The largest numbers of civilian club runners were naturally from those clubs based near the majority of the events in the South Central / East of England. SO had 38, SOC and BADO had 35 with the next being BOK 29, SN 28, WIM 26, TVOC 24, SARUM 23 and BKO 22.
