RVCP Local Event and Picnic

A reminder that SOC's next event is due to take place in two weeks' time on Saturday 20 July at Royal Victoria Country Park. Full details of the event can be found on the SOC website. We'd like to encourage everyone to bring a picnic, along with something to share with others, and stay after their run, compare routes, and just generally socialise. Hopefully, the current fine weather will last until then! We're also looking for volunteers to help run the event (particularly during setup as the rest of the Currie family are tied up in their normal Saturday morning swimming routine!). Please soc [at] david.currie.name (drop me an email) if you're able to help.

Orienteering on the Adventure Show

Whether you're into football, tennis, cricket or cycling there is lots of good sport on TV at the moment but orienteering doesn't make it onto the small screen very often. It was, therefore, a bit of a coup for the JOK Chasing Sprint to get a full two hours coverage as the sole feature of BBC Scotland's live Adventure Show last week. It will be on iPlayer for the next three weeks and I encourage anyone who hasn't taken a look already to watch it before it disappears. The coverage does a great job of showing how exciting head-to-head racing can be whilst also conveying orienteering as a sport for all ages and, through TrailO, for all abilities.

Lakeside Community Fun Day

Thanks to Natalie, Roger, Bill and the Curries who manned the SOC stand at Lakeside Country Park's Community Fun Day today. The event was blessed with fantastic weather. Orienteering was one of many activities on offer alongside kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, weightlifting (!) and the park's miniature railway. The orienteering made use of the permanent orienteering course at Lakeside. If you fancy giving one of the courses on offer a go, you can obtain a map from the British Orienteering website.
