[img_assist|nid=264|title=JIRC 2009 Prize Giving|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=143]One of the most important events in the year for the juniors is the Junior Inter Regional Orienteering Championships, which were held in Northern Ireland this year. The South Central Region (SCOA) sent a team of 18 to the event, which included three from SOC, Tim Morgan, Jamie Hicks and Tamsin Moran. The event consisted of an individual, which was held in the very picturesque surroundings of the Mountains of Mourne and a relay in Belvoir Forest close to Belfast. In the individual competition, out of the country’s 12 regions, SCOA came 9th in the boys competition and equal 5th in the girls, which was an excellent performance for the girls.
In the girls relay, our first relay team just missed out on first place by 4 seconds, with SOC’s Tamsin Moran leading the field after the first leg. Katherine Bett (SN) dropped a few places during the second leg against tough competition, while Julia Blomquist (BAOC) had a stormer, but just missed out on first place to the North West.
Well done to everyone who attended.
