Shawford Down is an ideal area for juniors and newcomers to orienteering in an enclosed rural setting with fewer man- made features and where more reliance on vegetation and land forms is required for navigation. For its size the Down also offers sufficient scope to give those more experienced a good physical and mental workout.
The Yellow course was planned to stay within the upper section of the map, with controls placed in the open pasture and small wooded section in the South West. The Orange ventured into the steeper wooded South section, and Light Green visited all corners of the map, with changes in direction testing concentration and map contact.
Apologies go to Michael Ellis and Sam Johnson for the mix up at the start of the Orange course. Your results have been adjusted to compensate. Thanks go to everyone who attended, especially those who helped out on the day!
