Oliver's Battery Easter Egg Hunt

By Helen Wheelwright , 19 March, 2023

One of our new members, Colin Stride, is planning the Oliver's Battery MapRun Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday 9th April, 12.30-17.00.

This event is being organised by Oliver's Battery Events team with technical help from SOC. See the Oliver's Battery website for more information and enter by 3rd April at the latest.

The longest route is about 9.5k so there is plenty to keep you busy even for the keenest orienteers.

Colin would be very grateful if a SOC volunteer could attend to give help on how to download and use maprun6. If anyone is able to help on the day, please oliversbatteryevents [at] gmail.com (email) him.

Many thanks to Colin for planning this event.

Westwood Event Cancellation

By Webmaster , 18 March, 2023

Regrettably, the first of event this year's Summer Series that was to have been held at Westwood on 2nd April has had to be cancelled. The clash with the Southampton Marathon means road closures making access difficult which, combined with other logistical issues, means that it is not feasible to proceed with the event.

MapRun League 2023

By Helen Wheelwright , 7 March, 2023

It's time to start thinking about filling those lovely long summer evenings with a 45 minute run followed by a sociable session in a nearby pub. Maybe you have a favourite area that you would like to map and a favourite pub you would like to share with other SOC members? Or maybe you would like to get to know some new corners of the SOC catchment area? If you are interested in creating a maprun or have any queries about it, please let me know on helenamandaaa [at] gmail.com (helenamandaaa[at]gmail[dot]com). Creating a MapRun from scratch is very simple and instructions are attached below. We plan to have a series of 7 MapRuns starting on 14th April and winding up on 20th July. As always we can't do this without your help. So whether you are new to MapRun or you have planned one before, please do think what you could offer this year.
