UK > Southampton > 2021 Summer League > Shawford

Shawford is the fifth and final event in the SOC MapRun League. More information on the League and the events is available here.  This event will be available in the MapRun app from Saturday 4/9/2021. For your run to count in the League, you must submit your results by the end of Sunday 19/9/2021. After that, you can still have a go at the course but it won't count for the League.

You can do the course more than once but only your first go counts towards the League.

Location/Parking: Parking is available in the car park at the bottom of Shawford Down, near Shawford Railway Station SO21 2BN. The grid reference for the car park is SU472250. The start/finish is a junction of paths close to the war memorial in the middle of Shawford Down (up the hill from the car park). There is additional parking on the streets near the railway station or a further public car park at the top of the Down at SU467248 (from where you head downhill to the start/finish). Parking is free.

Format: 45-minute Score. Points are 10, 20 or 30 points per control: 10 points for 1 - 10, 20 points for 11 - 20, and 30 points for 21 - 30. There is a penalty of 10 points per minute late back or part thereof. Total score is 600 points.

MapRun App: Use the MapRun6 app. Do not use the original MapRun app as it does not understand the score format. When navigating to the event, select "UK", then "Southampton" (not "Hampshire"), and then "2021 Summer League" or, if you have MapRun6, open this link. See the MapRun website for guidance on configuring your phone to get the best results.

Map: The map is available in both stick and pseud-O formats below. Both are at a 1:7500 scale.

Terrain: The MapRun takes you round the village roads as well as through some woods and open downland. Fences and hedges are not to be climbed or pushed through whether marked on the map or not. There are numerous kissing gates between wooded and open areas and these are not marked on the map. Only the main network of paths is marked on the map; be aware that there are also many minor paths in the wooded areas that are not marked. The course is crossed by the M3 motorway, railway line, and the main Otterbourne-Winchester road and pedestrian crossing points (mainly underpasses) are marked. It hopefully goes without saying that the motorway and railway line are not to be crossed other than by these pedestrian routes or the road bridges!

Safety: Please take care when crossing roads. Under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.
