Kings Worthy
UK > Southampton > 2021 Summer League > Kings Worthy
Kings Worthy is the fourth event in the SOC MapRun League. More information on the League and the events is available here. This event will be available in the MapRun app from Saturday 21/8/2021. For your run to count in the League, you must submit your results by the end of Sunday 5/9/2021. After that, you can still have a go at the course but it won't count for the League.
You can do the course more than once but only your first go counts towards the League.
Location/Parking: Parking is available in the car park of Eversley Park recreation ground, Loader Close, Kings Worthy, SO23 7TF. The start and finish are just next to the car park. Parking is free.
Format: 45-minute Score. Points are 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 per control: 10 points for 1 - 10, 20 points for 11 - 20, and 30 points for 21 - 25. There is a penalty of 10 points per minute late back or part thereof. Total score is 430 points.
MapRun App: Use the MapRun6 app. Do not use the original MapRun app as it does not understand the score format. When navigating to the event, select "UK", then "Southampton" (not "Hampshire"), and then "2021 Summer League" or, if you have MapRun6, open this link. See the MapRun website for guidance on configuring your phone to get the best results.
Map: The maps is available in both stick and pseud-O formats below. Both are at a 1:7500 scale.
Terrain: Kings Worthy is wedged in between the A33 and the A34. It is not necessary to cross these A roads to complete the course. The MapRun takes you round the village roads as well as through some woods and meadows. Fences and hedges are not to be climbed or pushed through whether marked on the map or not. The east-west path to the north of the map follows the path of the dismantled railway line. It is possible to go under the railway bridge near control 7 if you wish.
There are lots of pleasant sights along the route of the MapRun, including a beautiful church, a mosaic of a Roman villa, the traces of the railway line, a community orchard and, for those who competed in the Winchester Half marathon in the late 80s or maybe more recently, there is a chance to revisit Nations Hill!
Safety: Please take care when crossing roads. Under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.
