Twyford
The fifth event in the SOC MapRun League takes us to Twyford. The League consists of weekly events in April and May 2021. More info on the League and the events here. The event will be available in the MapRun app from Saturday 01/05/21. For your run to count in the League, you must submit your results by the end of Sunday 09/05/21. After that, you can still have a go at the course but it won't count for the League. You can do the course more than once but your first go counts.
UK > Southampton > League > 05 - Twyford Score
Location: Start/finish is next to the pavilion in Hunter Park, Twyford. Thereβs plenty of parking in the car park. Travelling from Southampton, exit M3 at Jn 11 and take the B3335 towards Twyford. After 1.6 miles, take 1st left after the traffic lights at crossroads into Park Lane - The Bugle is on your left. This lane is fairly narrow. The entrance to Hunter Park is on the right after about 500 yards just past the allotments. GR SU 48357 24310. What 3 Words: earth.luck.agree
Format: 45-minute score. Points are 10, 20, or 30 per control: 10 points for 1 - 10, 20 points for 11 - 20, and 30 points for controls 21 - 30. There is a penalty of 10 points per minute late back or part thereof.
MapRun App: Use MapRunF or, preferably, the new MapRun6 app. Do not use the original MapRun app as it does not understand the score format. When navigating to the event, select "UK", then "Southampton" (not "Hampshire"), and then "League" or, if you have MapRun6, open this link on your phone. See the MapRun website for guidance on configuring your phone to get the best results.
Map: The map format used is Pseud-O map. Note that the finish is not marked on the map but is in the same location as the start. There is also another change in map scale: 1:7500.
Terrain: The area around Twyford is within the South Downs National Park and combines country village lanes, ancient trackways, water meadows and surrounding hills.
Safety: Twyford is bisected by a busy road (B3335) but the event area is designed to allow safe crossing of this road at 2 light controlled crossing points. Under 16's should be accompanied by an adult. All fences are not to be climbed (whether marked on the map or not).
Refreshments: 2 excellent pubs
- The Bugle (What 3 Words: look.dragon.joined)
- The Phoenix (What 3 Words: rewarding.strike.foil)
Plus an excellent cafΓ© behind the post office called The Little Kitchen Bean & bar.
I hope that people enjoy running around our lovely village.
