The "Summer" Series just gets wetter and wetter! But the competitors smiles seem to get broader and broader. What is it about orienteers and mud, marsh and monsoons?
Tamsin Moran made the most of the compact Stoke Park Woods area, fitting in a 4.5km Light Green course that was challenging despite the plethora of paths in the area. Turnout was superb given the very poor weather, so much so that what would have been an excess of Light Green maps for other Summer Series events ran out at this one. Another indication that hardened orienteers aren't put off by torrential rain. Thanks to those of you who gave up maps and to those who took out those very wet maps.
The computer wasn't too happy about the weather and gave us a few issues to deal with during the event. I think that most results are recovered correctly but if you are not happy with yours please let me know - publicity [at] southampton-orienteers.org.uk (publicity[at]southampton-orienteers[dot]org[dot]uk). Apologies to Neil Adams. The Emit card he took out managed to register a completely different set of controls than were actually out in the woods! So no splits for Neil but luckily he was able to provide us with his overall time.
Just one more event to go in the Series: Hursley Park on 21st July. Hope to see you there and at the barbecue and Series prizegiving that will take place after the event.
Thanks to everyone who came
