SOC Saturday 4 - Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre

If you enjoyed today's event, make sure the next SOC Saturday on 12 February at Royal Victoria Country Park is on your calendar.

Organiser's Comments

Congratulations to all of those of you who even made it out the door this morning! For most of the week, the forecast for Saturday has shown heavy rain and, sadly, for once it was accurate. I hope this, and the mud that accompanied it, didn't dampen your enjoyment of the event. My thanks go to all those who prolonged their exposure by helping to run the event: Christine, Emma, Steve, Julian, Terry, Mark, Andrew, Vicki, Helen, Barry, Rachel, and Jonny, and to Duncan for putting up with my feedback on his courses! Now let's just hope the forecast for Sunday is also accurate and some of the kit starts to dry out again...

Planner's Comments

Thank you all for coming out in the rain today and braving the mud! I hope everyone enjoyed the courses and didn't get too wet, as the weather was not kind. Trying to fit the longer courses into the area was a bit of a challenge but I managed to reach the distance without too many loops and crossovers. I would also like to thank all the helpers who made the event possible and braved the cold and rain of Southampton: especially David Currie, my Dad, the organiser who gave me much needed advice when planning the courses. I hope any newcomers to orienteering enjoyed the event and are hungry for more; hope to see you again soon.

Cheers for all the support!

Duncan Currie (M14)

November Classic 2022

Profile picture for user Terry Sankey
By Terry Sankey , 7 January, 2022

SOC’s premier event, The November Classic, will be held this year on Sunday 6th November in The New Forest.

We are grateful to Colin Hicks and Kevin Bracher for stepping forward with their valued experience to Organise and Plan this National Standard event  and, to provide them with support, we are looking for an Assistant Organiser and an Assistant Planner to work alongside Colin and Kevin. In addition to providing support this would also be an excellent opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for officiating at future SOC events.

Please respond to Fixtures Secretary

Two Saturday events - entries open

Profile picture for user Julian Hartwell

Heads up on a couple of events:

Saturday 5th February. WSX are holding a Level D event at Studland Dunes. Entries are limited to 100 and they are giving local clubs priority. So enter now to secure your place. Link to flier below.

Saturday 26th March. At the other end of the scale - Level A - the British Orienteering Championships are near Liphook. This is the date of the individual races - the relays are the next day. Not cheap, and prices increase from Sunday week, so again you may want to enter now.

Both are taking entries via Fabian4.
