New Forest Orienteering on 20th September!

Entries are open for a joint SOC/WIM event at Hincheslea on 20th September. The event is closed to club members so you'll need a passcode to enter. You can find it here (you need to be logged in to see it). Entries are limited to 30 from each club. All the details are available on racesignup.co.uk

"The Run In" Podcast

Hello fellow orienteers,

The Run In logoWe're writing to let you know that you can now listen to over 30 episodes of our podcast, The Run In.

It's made with club orienteers in mind and gives you a fun and chatty insight into the experiences of orienteers from the UK and beyond.

As a member of the GB team, Will brings his international experience, and as a journalist and commentator, Katherine gets to the heart of the guest's story.

Recent highlights include:

  • Georgia Jones (OROX) on pitching orienteering to newcomers whilst setting up the University of Exeter club
  • Young star of international orienteering Simona Aebersold on getting really nervous before major races and how she distracts herself
  • Kirstin Maxwell (RR) on trying to train with vitamin deficiencies, and finding new trails in lockdown
  • Ben Mitchell (SBOC) tells us why he started mapping and making maps for the JK 2021

New full-length episodes are released every fortnight, and we have recently added some quick-fire "Sprint" episodes, meaning there's something new to listen to every week.

Fleming Park MapRun

We only had two entries for our second armchair planning competition so I'm declaring both Mark Light and the joint entry from Norman Wilson/Julia Loring as winners. Mark's course is the first to have undergone the conversion to MapRun and you can find his course around Fleming Park and its surrounds here. MapRun continues to innovate and, for those with a suitably recent/advanced Garmin watch, you can now use the MapRunG app on your watch to provide notifications as you reach controls as well as recording your route/time. As always, the use of MapRun on either a phone or watch is entirely optional - feel free just to take the map and go for a run round the controls!
