Map: The map is a 1:7500 OpenOrienteeringMap. The PDF map & Control Descriptions can be downloaded below. The background of the map has some ‘alternative’ graphics on it as this map was part of a joint venture by SOC with Olivers Battery Parish Council, under the Sports England & BO Find Your Way Initiative. The OOB area A is not applicable to this SOC MapRun League and this area can be run across for this event. The OOB area B is because of Ground Nesting Birds which are definitely there and MUST be observed.
Terrain: The course is around a 50:50 split between the urban residential area of Olivers Battery and its Rural open fields and is primarily on paths. The open field and wooded paths may be muddy & slippery after prolonged rain. (The underlying geology is chalk)..
Safety: The spine road of Olivers Battery Road South and Old Kennel Lane, although designated 30mph can have surprisingly fast traffic on it especially the lower end of Old Kennels Lane. All fences are not to be climbed whether marked on the map or not – this also includes squeezing though holes in fences
