For those local to North Baddesley, we have a new MapRun. Many thanks for Helen for putting this one together. For details on MapRun, and to see the back catalogue of other courses the club has, see the SOC website. Given the current emphasis on keeping exercise local, if anyone else would like to plan one in their neighbourhood, or even if you'd like someone else to plan one for you, drop me an webmaster [at] socweb.org (email).
The Compass Sport magazine has published a date for the Compass Sport Trophy Final. The Final for the 2020 event is scheduled to take place at Chatsworth in the Peak District on 17th October 2021.
There are no cast iron guarantees that this event will take place but given that a vaccination programme is about to start, we can certainly hope that things will have improved sufficiently by then for this event to be a real possibility.
For those that are new to the Compass Sport event, we need as many SOC members to take part as possible, as long as you are able to complete a course at technical difficulty 5. Juniors competing at M/W14-(orange) and M/W18-(green) will be particularly welcome.
Chatsworth looks like a very attractive, if rather undulating area. Please see the routegadget link below for a look at the map of the 2018 JIRCS competition in 2018.
The area is described as beautiful, combining heather-covered moorland, coniferous plantation, a steep escarpment and an ornamental ruined aqueduct!
Please put the date in your diary. If anyone has run at Chatsworth that would be good to know. Contact me on helenamandaaa [at] gmail.com if you would like further information or some help on progressing from orange to green level.
PS: Does anyone know the control description for an ornamental ruined aqueduct?
Happy New Year
Happy New Year everyone!
With tier 4 restrictions for the majority of our members, it unfortunately looks like we are unable to put on events again. Who knows how long this will last for. But there is something we can do... Zoom socials!
7th January 20:00 virtual pub social
Come with a top orienteering memory or highlight of 2020, your new orienteering Christmas presents or maybe any top tips on how you coped during the previous years restrictions. It would be great to meet some of our new members as well.
We have been having 15+ members attend each social, so this time we'll give the breakout rooms a try (so we can talk in smaller groups). As if we were sat on different tables in the pub!
I will continue to put on fortnightly socials
