The first of the two long qualification races with the aggregate time over two days deciding which final you compete in.
Heros go for glory in the qualifiers, but the cunning do just enough to qualify for the A Final, and go for broke in the Final.
M55 had 4 heats with the first 20 from each going into the A Final, next 20 into the B Final and so on. After his blinder in the Sprint Final Philip Eeles made 18th today in 60.26 with the winner clocking 45.39.
The terrain was gully spur or rentrants and enormous ravines to you and me!! Most M55/60 courses were 5km+ with 275+ metres of climb. With the temperatures approaching 30 degrees and no wind it was a cook up. Not helped by the fact that it was all of top of a disused uranium mine!
M60 had 6 heats with the first 14 qualifying for the A Final, the next 14 the B Final and so on. Tim Sands managed to stuff the second last easy control and finished 12th in 55.30 with the winner doing 44.49.
Attachment shows Tim finishing in style!!
Philip Cooper finished 32nd in 66.05 with the winner taking 43.21!!
Tim Tett won his M50 heat.
