JK2018 entries are open

JK2018 event next Easter.

The cheapest entry fees for JK2018 events are available up to 17th Dec, with increases in price in January and final closing date 25 Feb. It is centred on Cannock Chase, just north of Birmingham. https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=3933

Why this reminder? Because one year on, Easter 2019, the JK will be hosted by the South Central Region and there will be a call for hundreds of local orienteers to support the 4 days of competition in many different roles. So if you have never been to a JK Festival of orienteering, it might be worth considering for 2018 so that you will have a flavour of the scale, atmosphere and excitement of the biggest annual multi-day event– the ‘Wimbledon’ of orienteering – spread over 4 days and attracting competitors from many countries. (Think November Classic x 3 for 4 consecutive days.)

Terry and I have volunteered as Co-ordinators for the JK2019. TVOC, BKO and SN are providing suitable areas but all clubs in the region are doing their bit to support the weekend. We are keen to identify people interested in a variety of tasks – especially a JK volunteer co-ordinator for SOC helpers, prize-giving, start team, download team, car parking, enquiries, site team..... Now is a good time to think about what you would like to do so that you have a whole year to learn the ropes and even practice particular skills at events: we hope to engineer training opportunities throughout 2018. You don’t have to be a brilliant orienteer to be part of the big event.

Terry and I attend most SOC events if you want to chat about options, or you can email di(at)ntrees.co.uk or phone 02380 845787. Please don’t be shy – we need 150 helpers each day!
