An Extraordinary General Meeting of British Orienteering Federation Limited will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday 14th October 2017, venue; The Studio, Riverside West, Whitehall Road, Leeds, LS1 4AW

There are three proposals;

  • To include the Isle of Man in the territory over which British Orienteering governs the sport of orienteering.

  • To clarify the situation regarding Directors who have served their maximum term in office. Currently, the situation is unclear and we would like to follow the good practice identified in the new governance code by making it a minimum period of 4-years during which a director cannot stand again. This is in line with good practice and a change required by Government.

  • To clarify the membership of the Appointments Panel that is used to make nominations to the Board regarding independent directors. This is also in line with the new Governance Code of Practice and required by Government.

The EGM Booklet, containing details of the EGM, the proposals, supporting statements and the proxy voting form is available here.

It is appreciated that many members will not be attending, however, your votes are important as the Sport England is particularly keen to see that those sports receiving government funding do have good codes of governance in place.

If you are not attending the EGM but would like to cast a vote, please complete the proxy voting form attached in the EGM Booklet following the instructions included.

EGM - Funding Implications

I encourage all members to use their (proxy) vote in favour of Proposal 2: Re-appointment of a Director and Proposal 3: Appointments Panel. These proposals need to achieve a majority of at least 75% in order to maintain funding from Sport England. Another sport failed to get this majority by a fraction of a percent and funding was withdrawn!
