Congratulations to club members Emma and Duncan Currie who won their respective age classes at today's British Schools Score Championship. (Duncan was actually running up to Year 5, the youngest age category at the event.) The event took place nearby at Moors Valley Country Park in beautiful weather (particularly given the previous day's conditions). All age categories had the same 28 controls to choose from with a 45-minute time limit. There is always a loop of white standard controls so that all the children can manage something. One competitor did punch all of the controls (a distance of just under 10k) although was 43 seconds over the allotted time. Results and more pictures can be seen on the British Schools Orienteering Association website. Emma and Duncan won't be travelling up to the non-score Champs in Blackburn later this year but BADO will be hosting the event in 2019. Prizes were presented by Gillian Cross, author of the Demon Headmaster series amongst other children's books, and member of Wimborne Orienteers.
What a glorious day in the Forest! It seemed that most competitors enjoyed themselves and found Hugh's courses demanding yet fun and engrossing. My thanks go to the helpers today who gave up their time to make this day a success. They were: Julis Loring,Norman Wilson, Julian Hartwell, Ian Moran, Tamsin Moran, Toby Tyrell, Veronica Barette, Robin Smith, Mike Frizzell, Vicky Barkaway, Barry Sowerbutts and last but not least my long suffering mentor, Kevin Bracher.
Thank you and look forward to seeing you on 4th November for the 51st November Classic.
